How to Purchase in Auction
Morton provides a simple and easy process for buying at auction. We are happy to assist both new and experienced buyers. Our auctions are free and open to the public. You are under no obligation to bid.

Making a purchase at auction is simple. Our friendly and experienced staff is always available to answer any questions that you may have. We can assist with all aspects of your purchase from the actual bidding to coordinating delivery.

Public Gallery Preview

The best way to obtain information about specific lots available at the auction is to view the items in person. Open five days a week (Monday - Friday), we strongly encourage all prospective bidders to preview the auction in person on the Wednesday or Thursday prior to the auction.

Condition

Morton wants all of its clientele to be fully satisfied with purchases made at the gallery. We will be happy to assist you in obtaining as much information as possible regarding the condition of a particular lot prior to bidding. Because all lots are sold "where is, as is", and condition is a subjective issue, we strongly encourage you to preview the items in person prior to bidding.

Buying At Morton Auction House

At Morton we have two types of auctions:

Antiques & Interiors – held every other Thursday night at 7pm.

Please check our website www.mortonhouston.com for auction dates and to review auction items and photos of each lot, descriptions of items, and their low and high auction estimates.
We advertise and promote the auctions in various publications and online. These are public auctions and our audience is wide, but not limited to dealers, museums, end users, and collectors.

Bidding

There are four ways to bid at a Morton auction:

1. Attend an auction and bid – Sign up at the front desk and an associate will assign you a paddle with your bidder number on it. This is the most fun and satisfying way to bid as you watch items that sell and you feel the pace of the auction.

2. Absentee bid – Fill in the absentee bid form with the lot number and the maximum bid you make. If the bidding stops below this number you win the lot for less than your maximum bid. The form is available on www.mortonhouston.com and at the front desk.

3. Telephone bid – Bid on the telephone with one of the Morton associates by filling out a form and stating a specified minimum bid for the lots you choose. Please call 713.827.7835 To apply for a phone bid. Have the lot numbers you are bidding on and your credit card information so this can be completed. An associate will call you at the telephone number provided just before your lot. The bidding is rapid so you must respond quickly “do you want to bid $xxx?” within seconds or you will be out of the bidding.

4. Online bidding – Sign up with an internet auction site like Live Auctioneers and bid online. Caution; (bidding does go rapidly).

Information To Help You Make The Right Bid

Please view our on-line catalog. Indepth descriptions are available by clicking on the “lot details” associated with each lot. You may request a condition report on lots valued over $1000.

Payments

Payment is expected the day of the auction.
Your bill will include 20% buyers premium and sales tax. By bidding, you have signed a contract and are liable to pay. Payment is accepted in the form of cash, check, or credit card (up to $5,000).

Pick Up

All items must be picked up within 5 "Business Days", thereafter they will be moved to storage where a per diem storage fee will be charged. Morton does not arrange, pack or deliver merchandise, but can furnish a list of reputable delivery services.
